Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company (YPTMTC) is a performing arts company devoted to bringing quality and professional level theatre to young adults in the Bay Area.  Sponsored by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and supported by Friends of the Company (FOTC). Members range in age from 13- 19 and are selected by open audition only.

YPTMTC stages 3 major productions a year, community service performances,  summer workshops, and master classes. Members of Company are not charged monetary fees during the school year and pay a nominal fee for the Summer Programs.

YPTMTC draws a wide diversity of young adults from many different middle schools, high schools, and ethnic backgrounds.  Company members grow and learn artistically and individually, and create new and lasting friendships.  Whether studying theatre recreationally or in pursuit of a career, we provide training and life skills to be successful on stage and beyond.  Many alumni of the Company are continuing to study theater, dance and music in college and have been cast in professional productions.

Little Mermaid - A Zero Waste Production

Film and Editing by Andrea Cortes-Juarbe

In the Fall of 2019, the cast of the Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company (YPTMTC) embarked on a production of Disney's "The Little Mermaid, The Musical" unlike any other.  This production was created with a zero waste, buy nothing, sustainable mission.  Over the next five months, the cast and crew resourced, collected, salvaged, and recycled everyday items used daily for mass consumption to create an entire production without buying a single item. All costume, sets, props, were repurposed or recycled items, and we minimized our paper footprint with the use of social media and downloadable programs.  As a community, each member of the cast and crew made 3 or more intentional choices to minimize our daily impact on the environment and reduce our waste.  The outcome was unlike any other production we have created, and our mission was fully achieved!
